Nia 5 Stages of Healing

I had the opportunity to attend additional Nia training this weekend in Lansing. The focus was on the body's ability to self-heal and realign by doing 5 movements. It was a powerful experience. I have already begun to feel the shifts in my body, mind, spirit and emotions and as I continue to learn this beautiful body of work, I will begin to offer it to the Ann Arbor Community. I will provide periodic updates on my journey with this work on the blog.

I continue to offer several classic Nia classes and hope that you will join me.

Revitalized and Renewed

I just got back from Collingwood in Ontario, Canada. I spent five days on the shorelines of the Georgian Bay. I did Nia every morning followed by hot tub, cold pool and sauna. What a way to revitalize the body and renew the mind and soul. Nia is about reconnecting to the joy of movement and finding pleasure in the dance. Whether it is the dance of the body or the dance of life.

What have you done lately to bring joy and pleasure into your mind, body and soul. If it has been awhile or you can't think of anything, join me for a Nia class. First soul renewal class is on me.

What is Nia?

“Nia is movement-medicine for the body and soul.”

Nia simultaneously addresses the body, mind, emotions, and spirit, and puts them on the “same page” using music, movement and personal expression to integrate one’s neurology (including the mind, emotions, and spirit) with one’s outer body, or musculature. To achieve this whole-being integration, Nia addresses the whole person using a comprehensive, holistic exercise approach designed with a combination of nine classic movement forms.

Nia Blends Nine Movement Forms

Martial Arts: T’ai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido
Dance Arts: Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance
Healing Arts: Yoga, Alexander Technique, The Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais®

Nia teaches you how to physically interpret and internally direct your actions and choices, and to listen to the voice of your body and allow the body to be your guide in discovering Dynamic Ease. Practiced barefoot to music, Nia is self-guided, adaptable and safe for any fitness level, from stiff beginners to highly fit athletes. Delivering cardiovascular, whole-body conditioning, Nia is based on creating a loving relationship with the body and following The Body’s Way – the innate intelligence of the body.
